Precision medicine

Biomedical science in service of every patient

I combine laboratory research with everyday clinical practice to find the biological cause behind persistent symptoms. Each consultation lasts 45 minutes, includes a written report, and results in a plan built around your own biology — not around an average patient.

About me

An evidence-based clinical approach

I am a physician with biomedical training, which means I spend my time in two places: the consulting room and the laboratory. That combination shapes how I work — instead of treating a symptom in isolation, I look for the molecular mechanism that produces it, because that is what determines whether a treatment will actually work for you.

Every consultation begins by listening. Before ordering a single test, I want the full history: when the symptoms started, what has already been tried, and what previous results showed. Technology and biomarkers are tools; the clinical decision always starts with the story of the person in front of me.

I see patients in person and by video call, and I regularly work with people who live abroad or who have spent years without a clear diagnosis. If your case falls outside my areas of expertise, I will tell you so directly and refer you to a colleague who is better placed to help.

Specialties

Areas of clinical care

These are the areas I work in every day. If you are not sure which one fits your situation, choose the closest match when booking — I will review your case before the appointment and redirect it if needed, at no extra cost.

Advanced diagnostics

For persistent symptoms that previous tests have not explained. I review your full history and select high-sensitivity testing aimed at the underlying cause rather than repeating what has already been done.

  • Review of all previous test results
  • Targeted laboratory and imaging plan
  • Written diagnostic report

Genomics & precision medicine

If you have had a genetic test done — or are considering one — I interpret the result in your clinical context and explain in plain language what it does and does not mean for you and your family.

  • Interpretation of existing genetic reports
  • Hereditary risk assessment
  • Drug-response (pharmacogenomic) guidance

Clinical immunology

Diagnosis and long-term management of conditions where the immune system is over-reacting, under-reacting, or attacking the body's own tissue.

  • Autoimmune disease
  • Complex or unexplained allergy
  • Recurrent infections & immunodeficiency

Molecular biomarkers

Laboratory panels chosen and read in clinical context. A value slightly outside the reference range is not automatically a problem — and a value inside it is not automatically reassuring.

  • Early-detection screening panels
  • Treatment response monitoring
  • Second reading of existing lab work

Clinical research

I design and take part in clinical trials. Where a study is relevant to your condition, I will explain what participation would involve — including the risks — so you can make an informed decision.

  • Eligibility assessment for active trials
  • Plain-language explanation of study protocols
  • Informed access to emerging therapies

Second opinion & telemedicine

An independent review of a diagnosis or proposed treatment, by secure video call. Available internationally, in English, Portuguese or Spanish, with a written summary afterwards.

  • Documents reviewed before the call
  • 45-minute video consultation
  • Written opinion within 72 hours

Why choose me

Scientific rigour, personal care

A ten-minute appointment cannot resolve a complex case. This practice is built around fewer patients and longer consultations, so that each case gets the attention it actually requires.

  • 45-minute consultations Long enough to go through your history, your previous results and your questions without rushing.
  • A written report after every visit You leave with the findings, the reasoning behind them and the next steps in writing — not just in memory.
  • Lab results read personally I interpret your laboratory studies myself, in the context of your history, rather than relying on the automatic flags on the printout.
  • Coordination with other specialists When your case needs another discipline, I contact the colleague directly and share the clinical reasoning, so you do not have to start over.
  • Follow-up between visits Short video or written check-ins are included while a treatment is being adjusted, at no additional charge.
  • Your records stay yours Encrypted digital records that you can access and export at any time, including if you decide to change doctor.

How it works

What to expect, step by step

So there are no surprises: this is exactly what happens from the moment you send a request until your treatment plan is in place.

  1. 01

    Request and confirmation

You send the form below. Within 24 business hours you receive an email with available times, the consultation fee and a secure link to upload any previous test results.

  2. 02

    Case review before we meet

I read your documents before the appointment, in my own time. That way the consultation starts with your questions rather than with paperwork.

  3. 03

    The consultation — 45 minutes

In person or by secure video call. We go through your history, I explain what I think is happening and why, and together we decide which tests are actually worth doing.

  4. 04

    Written plan and follow-up

Within 72 hours you receive a written report: findings, reasoning, test requests and next steps. Follow-up check-ins are included while the plan is being adjusted.

Research

Publications and scientific activity

Research is not a side activity — it is what keeps the clinical work current. Below is a selection of peer-reviewed publications; the full list is available on request.

Also: 12 presentations at international congresses, peer reviewer for two journals in the field, and supervision of doctoral students in translational medicine.

Testimonials

What my patients say

Published with the written consent of each patient. Names are shortened at their request.

"For the first time I felt someone was reviewing my whole case rather than one symptom at a time. The tests he ordered explained four years of results that nobody had connected."
MRMaría R.Patient since 2021 · Autoimmune disease
"I arrived with a genetic report I did not understand and left understanding my own diagnosis. He drew it out on paper until it made sense, and then sent it to me in writing."
JLJorge L.Second opinion · Clinical genomics
"I moved abroad in the middle of treatment. The video follow-ups meant I never lost continuity, and my new local doctor received a full written handover."

Health, explained

Articles written for patients, not for colleagues. Each one answers a question I get asked repeatedly in consultation.

What does a genetic test actually mean?

Direct-to-consumer tests promise a lot. This article explains the difference between a risk variant and a diagnosis, why "positive" rarely means certainty, and which results genuinely warrant a follow-up with your doctor.
